OS3.0 is out. But not everybody knows how to update and then jailbreak their iPhone 3G. This is the steps to update your previous firmware iPhone to 3.0, assuming the iPhone is factory unlock:
- Connect your iPhone to iTunes
- Download the firmware 3.0 from iTunes (I selected ‘Download Only’ instead)
- After download completed, browse to C:/Username/App Data/Apple Computer/iPhone Software Update/
- Download redsnow 0.72 from
- Create a folder call Pawnage in the Desktop and place the 3.0 ipsw and redsnow 0.72 in it
- Extract redsnow to the folder
- Click Shift+restore if you jailbroken your iPhone before. Restore will wipe out all jailbreak data and clean up the iPhone before flashing the firmware. Navigate to the Pawnage folder created before and select the 3.0 ipsw file
- Wait for around 7-10 minutes. You should have your iPhone updated to 3.0
- After complete restoring, fire up redsnow.exe. Follow the steps mentioned, especially how to get to DFU mode.
- Wait for around 30 seconds and your iPhone should be jailbroken
Stop at step 10 if you are not going to use custom firmware, or otherwise. Just connect the iPhone to iTunes again and click shift+restore, select the custom firmware to begin flashing the iPhone.
